Deputy President of the African National Congress Oliver R. Tambo holding Danny Weiss, the son of Cora and Peter Weiss, at Danny's first birthday party. Tambo was staying at the Weiss home in Riverdale, NY while petitioning in the United Nations in October 1963. Tambo went into exile from South Africa in 1960 and became president of the ANC in 1967 following the death of Albert Luthuli. Tambo was frequently called OR.
