Advocacy for divestment appeared in the Colorado College student newspaper in 1978, and, in June 1978, the Board of Trustees endorsed the Sullivan Principles. One of the board members at that time was William Spencer, the President of Citicorp. The Colorado College Community Against Apartheid (CCCAA) used a variety of educational and protest actions during the mid-1980s to urge the Board of Trustees to adopt a policy of total divestment, which it never did. Their activities included an all-night rally and fasting and living in shanties before a Board meeting in 1986, a teach-in in 1987, sit-ins, occupying the office directly outside the President’s office, and 150 students crossing the stage at their graduation in 1987 leaving cards saying they would not donate to the College until it divested.
