The Committee on Southern African Liberation (COSAL) was formed in Fall 1973. COSAL leafleted and picketed at Crucible Steel, a company based in Syracuse, to protest its use of chrome imported from Rhodesia (Zimbabwe). COSAL did fundraising for liberation movements and donated the proceeds to projects of the Liberation Support Movement (LSM). COSAL hosted speakers from various liberation movements, including Oliver Tambo of the African National Congress. The Committee was a sponsor of and attended a Working Conference on Southern Africa in October 1975 and had some involvement in the National Coalition for the Liberation of Southern Africa that came out of the conference.
