The United Church of Christ (UCC) denomination was formed in 1957. The UCC formed the Council for Christian Social Action (CCSA) soon after its founding. CCSA became the Center for Social Action (CSA). CCSA/CSA was based in New York, New York. The United Church of Christ also had an office in Washington, D.C. during the 1970s-1990s called the Office of Church in Society to address issues of U.S. policy, including issues concerning Africa. UCC members in at least three parts of the country created task forces on southern Africa. These were in the UCC Massachsuetts Association, the UCC Potomac Association (in the Washington, D.C. area) and in Chicago, centered at the Wellington Avenue Church.
