The Rest of the News (ROTN) was an independent non-profit radio news collective formed in Ithaca, New York in 1971. The group produced 10-15 minute broadcasts following the regular news on WVBR in Ithaca, focusing on significant current topics such as the Attica Prison rebellion of 1971, the liberation movement in Zimbabwe, the Native American movement, the War in Vietnam, and other issues. Programs on Africa include U.S. Investments in Southern Africa, Guinea-Bissau: Birth of a Nation, Guinea-Bissau: A Struggle for Liberation, ZANU Press Conference, Militant Action Dockworkers Support Zimbabwe and Sahel Famine. ROTN also broadcast coverage of a local grassroots campaign which boycotted Portuguese wine, in support of the struggles for independence in Angola, Mozambique and Guinea-Bissau. Broadcasts included interviews with leading participants in these events interwoven with a script and music.
