The Pan-African Solidarity Committee campaigned in support of African struggles against colonialism and apartheid. On May 25, 1970 the Pan-African Solidarity Committee organized a march from Harlem to the United Nations marking the anniversary of the Organization of African Unity (OAU). The march also commemorated the birthday of Malcolm X and Ho Chi Minh on May 19. At the UN the names of people who had died in the struggle for freedom in the Africa and the U.S. were read out.
