The Finnish Africa Committee (FAC) started in 1970 and organized information campaigns for trade unions, and political parties. FAC focused on increasing public opposition to colonialism and throught practical support to promote the end of colonial rule. The FAC was independent but afflicted with the Finnish Peace Committee (SRP), a national organization of the World Peace Council. FRC established, together with SRP, the fundraising organization Peace Fund in 1973 to support liberation movements in Southern Africa. FAC had ties to representatives of liberation movements of a number of countries including the African National Congress (ANC) of South Africa, the MPLA of Angola, the PAIGC of Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde, and FRELIMO of Mozambique. The FAC focused more and more on apartheid as from the late 1970s and organized boycott campaigns. Mikko Lohikoski of FAC was a member of the International Advisory Commission to End Apartheid Sport. Kansan Arkisto (The People's Archives) at the Social Archives Foundation in Helsinki, Finland holds most of the archives of the organization. (Source:
