Action Against Apartheid was a student group on the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill campus. It was formed by former leaders and activists of the Anti-Apartheid Support Group who resigned from that organization in February 1987 as a result of differences over strategy and tactics. Action Against Apartheid led the campus movement against apartheid and campaign to get UNC to divest from companies doing business in South Africa. Action Against Apartheid held numerous actions, including an eight day fast for divestment in May 1987 and mobilized faculty support for divestment. In October of 1987, the UNC Endowment Board voted to divest all of its holdings in companies operating in South Africa. Action Against Apartheid continued to remain active for some time after the UNC Endowment Board voted to divest. (Source: Dale T.
