I assumed duties on June 1, 1979. Fortunately for me, this came after I had completed an extensive three month tour of the United States speaking before university groups, trade unions, churches and even some of our bank campaign affiliates. This gave me an idea of what kind of challenge, excitement, and the obstacles in store for me. Since becoming coordinator, I have found the job very fulfilling and the support I received primarily from ACOA and CALC, the sponsoring organizations, has been heartening indeed. I have also worked closely with the New York COBLSA people in terms of learning how a day-to-day campaign is carried out. I have travelled to four cities, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Indianapolis, and Chicago since June 1st. In Philadelphia, I appeared on a tri-state television program. In Washington, D.C., I was invited by the public television station to be on the same program with the Rev. Leon Sullivan whose so-called “principles” are now the new religion of the apartheid apologists. The Lutheran Coalition of Southern Africa that is represented here is doing things already. The AFSC is also represented. Contents: I. REPORT • 1.1 Organizing Office • 1.2 Travel • II. EVALUATION • 2.1 Overall Impression • 2.2 Political Climate In U.S. • III. Where Do We Go From Here • CONCLUSION
