Reverend Jesse Jackson, Sr., the President’s Special Envoy for the Promotion of Democracy in Africa, will give the keynote address at the luncheon. Other newly confirmed speakers include Representative Lois M. DeBerry, President of the National Black Caucus of State Legislators (NBCSL), who will outline NBCSL’s strong support for a progressive U.S. policy toward Africa. Congressmen Danny K. Davis and Bobby Rush will bring the views of two key members of the Congressional Black Caucus on such issues as the Growth and Opportunity Act and U.S.-Africa policy. Salih Booker, Senior Fellow and Director of the African Studies Program at the Council on Foreign Relations, will speak on “U.S. Aid, Trade and Investment – Getting the Mix Right.” Representative Spencer Coggs will talk on “Sister Cities – Connecting People and Places” and Representative Irma Hunter Brown will give a presentation on “Trade and Jobs: Creating Win-Win Partnerships.” We have enclosed a copy of the program, a background paper on the Multilateral Agreement on Investment and a recent Washington Post editorial of U.S.-Africa policy.
