Khumu Mtinjana, a practicing nurse, visited the United States representing South Africa’s National Education, Health and Allied Workers Union (NEHAWU). She met with ten Black women members of the Executive Committee of AFSCME Local 420, the New York City Municipal Hospitals Employees Union. In the black and white photograph, Mtinjana is standing just in front of a banner of Local 420 that reads “Welcome Sister Khumu Mtinjana of South Africa National Education, Health and Allied Workers Union.” She is wearing a head wrap and a tunic.
