The U.C. Out of South Africa Coalition congratulates those Regents who voted for the divestiture plan adopted on July 18, 1986. Sadly, it took the Regents ten years to see the moral and political correctness of full divestment from companies such as IBM, General Motors, and Coca Cola that continue to do business with or in apartheid South Africa. It took the loss of more than 2,500 lives and three States of Emergency in the last year to convince the governor that divestiture was our only choice. We join the Berkeley U.C. Divestment Committee in asking for the resignation of University of California President David Gardener because of his continued adamant opposition to...
