The Center works on Southern Africa with the Black Workers Congress, Southern Africa Liberation Information Group (SALIG), African American Solidarity Committee, United Church of Christ Southern Africa Task Force, Africa Information Service, an educational program for Black prisoners, as well as CCLAMG, which is based at the Center and holds many events there. The Center distributes literature about Southern Africa published by 15 organizations. ACOA provides a stipend to Eileen Hansen to coordinate distributing ACOA literature. Also, the Center became the distributor for Africa Research Group (ARG) documents after ARG closed. Actions on Southern Africa focus on Continental Bank, Rhodesia out of the Olympics, meeting with political candidates on Africa issues, and a group forming around Chicago corporations in Southern Africa. Challenges include connecting support for liberation struggles in Southern Africa to people’s daily lives; recognizing that many people learn from resources and events rather than reading print materials; and limitations of being a predominantly white organization. The document also includes a financial report of the Chicago Literature Distribution Project of ACOA, a two-page “Southern Africa Literature: RESOURCES ON IMPERIALISM AND LIBERATION” from the Center, and a leaflet advertising the Southern Africa Solidarity Day conference on November 19.
