Anti-Apartheid Movement
London, United Kingdom
1960?
This round button was first worn by people protesting outside South Africa House against the Sharpeville massacre in March 1960. This building, located on Trafalgar Square, housed the diplomatic mission of the Republic of South Africa. The button is in the design of a black-and-white yin yang symbol dividing the button in half by a curved line. The letter “A” appears in place of a dot in the contrasting color in the circular part of each half of the design. This design became the logo of the Anti-Apartheid Movement. Additional copies of the button may have been produced over the years. Size: 1 inch across.
