Washington, DC, United States
November 1986
Poster produced to advertise the 1987 Africa Peace Tour. The poster features a somber black and white photograph of four Africans who are seated. Two are children, both with bandaged injuries. A young man has a crutch.
The child and the young man with a crutch have suffered injuries in the war against Angola being waged by South Africa and its ally in Angola, UNITA. There are now 23,000 people in Angola weighting for artificial limbs; many of them are casualties of mine explosions. United States mines have been reported captured in Angola. The United States is believed to have provided UNIUTA with at least $15 million in "covert" military assistance in 1986; a drive is on in Congress to provide another $27 million for UNITA in 1987.
