Hafsat Abiola speaks at a briefing for the New York City Council about the military dictatorship in Nigeria. Hafsat Abiola was the daughter of Moshood Abiola, who was imprisoned by the Nigerian Government; he was the winning candidate in elections in Nigeria in 1993 that were annulled. After the briefing, the City Council voted to condemn the Nigerian military dictatorship and call for U.S. economic sanctions.
