Rectangular metal button honoring Hoji ya Henda, the nom de guerre of José Mendes de Carvalho, a fighter in the MPLA army (the People's Armed Forces for the Liberation of Angola, or FAPLA). The button shows an image of Mendes, wearing a military beret. He was killed in combat in Angola on April 14, 1968, when he was 24. Later, in his memory, April 14 was celebrated in Angola as Angolan Youth Day. This button may have been produced by the MPLA. Size: 24x34 mm.
