White round button with a photograph of Elias Motsoaledi at the center, wearing a suit and tie. The text, in red, is around the circle, with his birthday, 26-07-1924 (July 26, 1924), directly above his picture. Motsoaledi was a lifelong member of the South African Communist Party (SACP) and the African National Congress (ANC). Motsoaledi was one of the eight defendants in the Rivonia Trial (including Nelson Mandela) and was sentenced to life imprisonment. The button commemorates his 64th birthday, in 1988. He was released the following year. The button was apparently produced by the African National Congress in Zambia. ("Cde" is short for "Comrade.")
