George Shepherd of the American Committee on Africa greets UN petitioner Julius Nyerere in March 1955, seven years before he became president of independent Tanzania. Nyerere was in New York to address the U.N. Trusteeship Council that debated the third U.N. Visiting Mission's Report on Tanganyika.
