Description

Translation: "Shell Tank(er)s in Southern Africa" The picture is a clear reference to the military use South Africa made of imported crude oil. In a Norwegian adaptation, the name of one of the many Norwegian tankers revealed as being involved in breaking the embargo was added to the picture. Norway banned oil shipments to South Africa in 1987; in their campaign for such ban, Norwegian activists had made ample use of the reports of the Dutch-based Shipping Research Bureau (a joint Komitee Zuidelijk Afrika and Werkgroep Kairos project), which supplied the UN, international media, governments and campaigners with detailed information on violators of the oil embargo.
