Translation: "Total economic and military boycott of South Africa" This poster highlights several Dutch enterprises doing business in South Africa. The poster accompanied a petition campaign organized by Anti-Apartheids Beweging Nederland (AABN), Medisch Komitee Angola and youth and students' organizations calling for a comprehensive economic and military boycott. Shell in 1979 became the subject of a specific campaign, organized by Kairos and KZA. In the 1970s the Amro Bank had been successfully targeted by AABN, BOA, Kairos and other organizations responding to a call from the World Council of Churches to boycott European banks involved in loans to the apartheid regime. Of the relative obscure Dura construction company then trade-union leader Wim Kok said in a speech to activists in 1979 that it had built the Durban court building "where now offenders of the apartheid laws are convicted daily..."
