A group of 39 sixth-grade students from a school in Hastings-on-Hudson in Westchester County, most of them 11 years old, went to the South Africa consulate as part of a larger group to deposit used keys they had collected. The keys were symbolically intended to unlock apartheid's jails and free political prisoners in South Africa. The children are holding up plastic bags of keys that they left in front of the consulate.
