At an event launching the "Unlock Apartheid's Jails" campaign, six U.S. mayors are listening to United Nations Secretary-General Javier Perez de Cuellar give a statement of support at the UN Headquarters. At the right of the photo (from left to right) are: U.S. mayors Thirman Milner (Hartford, CT), Joseph Paolino (Providence, RI), Marion Barry (Washington, DC), Raymond Flynn (Boston, Mass.), Richard Holland (Trenton, NJ), Richard Berkley (Kansas City), and also Joseph N. Garba (Nigeria), Chairman of the UN Special Committee against Apartheid. The campaign was initiated by The Africa Fund and the United States Conference of Mayors.
