Michigan State Senator Virgil Smith (at left) with Richard Knight, Project Associate of The Africa Fund, at the Midwest Regional consultation on U.S. Policy Toward Africa. Smith chaired the plenary session on "Promoting Constructive Trade and Investment in Africa." Smith was a leader on bills in the Michigan legislature concerning divestment from companies operating in South Africa.
