New York, New York, United States
June 1995
Bheki and Mirriam Ntuli in New York, with Dumisani Kumalo and Jennifer Davis, Projects Director and Executive Director of The Africa Fund, respectively. They are standing in front of a poster of "COSATU - The WORKERS' VOICE." Bheki Ntuli was the Northern Natal Chairman of the African National Congress (ANC). Inkatha hit squads tried to murder him, killing his mother and young cousin instead. When they learned Ntuli had gone to the United States, they said they would kill his wife, Mirriam. The Africa Fund helped Mirriam leave South Africa and come to the United States. [COSATU is the Congress of South African trade unions.]
