Hafsat Olaronke Abiola at the renaming of Kudirat Abiola Corner across the street from the Nigerian consulate in New York City. She was part of the campaign to honor her mother, democracy activist Kudirat Abiola, who was killed on a street in Lagos in 1996 while her husband, President-elect Moshood Abiola, was in prison. The New York City Council voted to approve this sign on October 30, 1997 in response to a campaign by The Africa Fund and the community-based United Committee To Save Nigeria.
