Description

The poster promoted the international campaign for an oil boycott of South Africa, at a time when there also were mandatory United Nations sanctions against Rhodesia that got its oil through South Africa. “OLIE BOYCOT” appears in red on a black background; the upper edge of the black space is defined by an arc of figures in silhouette with their fists raised, against a yellow background at the top of the poster. The bottom of the “Y” in “BOYCOT” pokes through a yellow and red Shell Oil logo, with red dripping down from it like blood. The logo is positioned in the chest of a dying cartoon figure fashioned from what appears to be a collage of newspaper text....
