Nelson Mandela (left) of the African National Congress (ANC) holding a photograph of Oliver Tambo who had been in exile and served as Acting President of the ANC while the organization was banned in South Africa and who died on April 24, 1993. Standing with Mandela is Basil Clunie of the Chicago Committee in Solidarity with Southern Africa (CCISSA). They are at the event "LABOR WELCOMES NELSON MANDELA: AN EVENING OF SOLIDARITY WITH THE PEOPLE OF SOUTH AFRICA." This event, held in Plumbers Hall, was organized by the Illinois Labor Network Against Apartheid. [Note: the photographer, Carol Thompson, was a long time member of CCISSA.]
