The button was apparently produced by the Anti-Censorship Action Group, which was formed in August 1986 by a group of prominent writers and publishers in South Africa in an effort to overcome laws restricting freedom of expression and information under the State of Emergency. Novelist Nadine Gordimer was a member of the group's Steering Committee. The round button with white background shows name of organization in red and other text in black. There is a small image of a scissors, pointed down, with its blades tied in a knot.
