The poster features a photograph of an African woman wearing a hat and blanket who is protesting, with her hand in a fist and her thumb raised. The photo is in red on a dark blue background; most of the lettering, in line with her arm, is in chartreuse. August 9 became a day to commemorate the protest of South African women at the Union Buildings in Pretoria on this date in 1956 against a law requiring that African women carrying a pass. (Three small white irregular areas are damage to the poster.) Size: 21-1/2 x 33-1/2 inches.
