Nelson Mandela, President of the African National Congress (ANC), voting in South Africa's first democratic election. Next to Mandela is Gay McDougall of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC). McDougall was on leave from the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law where she was director of the Southern Africa Project. Mandela voted in a building at the Ohlange High School in Inanda in the province of KwaZulu-Natal.
