Casspir tour in Uptown Charlotte

The photo of a replica of Casspir in Charlotte, North Carolina, as part of an cross country tour from June 17 to July 26, 1989. Real Casspirs were used by the South African military and police in South Africa and Namibia. The purposed of the tour was to publicize conditions in South Africa and southern Africa, to build support for sanctions, and to assist local organizers recruiting for work on sanctions and other Africa issues. In tour visited California (Los Angeles); Arizona (Phoenix, Tucson); New Mexico (Las Cruces, Albuquerque, Santa Fe); Texas (El Paso, San Antonio, Austin, Waco, Fort Worth, Dallas); Louisiana (Shreveport); Mississippi (Jackson); Alabama (Mobile, Montgomery, Birmingham); Georgia (Atlanta); South Carolina (Greenville, Spartanburg); North Carolina (Charlotte, Winston-Salem, Durham, Raleigh); and Washington, DC. The Tour was sponsored by the Africa Peace Committee and hosted in Charlotte by Charlotteans for a Free Southern Africa.
