![Local 10 of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU), in coordination with the Mary-Louise Hooper, West Coast Representative of the American Committee on Africa (ACOA), boycotted the unloading of cargo from South Africa including asbestos, coffee and hemp. The cargo was on the Dutch ship Raki that arrived at Pier 19. Longshoremen, members of Local 10, refused to cross a picket line led by Hooper. The picket included members of the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE), the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and the Northern California Committee on Africa.
