The poster is composed of drawings in blue, yellow, green, and red that are deconstructed from the iconic photograph from the body of Hector Pieterson being carried June 16, 1976 Soweto student uprising. Two smaller photographs are also included. This is one of two posters produced by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for International Anti-Apartheid Year which began on March 21, 1978, the anniversary of the 1960 Sharpeville massacre. International Anti-Apartheid Year was proclaimed in UN General Assembly resolution 32/105B adopted on December 14, 1977.
