Janet Restino
New York, New York, United States
Early 1990
New York artist and poet Janet Restino designed and created this T-shirt shortly after the release of Nelson Mandela on February 11, 1990. This black T-shirt has a large design screen printed on the front with a rectangle of green and a square of yellow above it, and a black open hand stretching upward on top of these colors, with a small red hand to the left and a black shadow of the large hand to the right. The text is in red on black above the raised black hand. The shirt was sold on the streets of New York City, in select shops, and at some political events.
