People from the American Committee on Africa, the Episcopal Churchmen for South Africa, and the Southern Africa Committee formed a coalition called the Namibia Support Group. The Namibia Support Group drew up a statement in support of Namibian strikers and sponsored a demonstration at the Newmont Mining Corporation in New York City.
