Mary-Louise Hooper with the National Liberation Front (Front de Libération Nationale, FLN) underground army, the Algerian Army of Liberation (National Liberation Army, ALN, Armée de libération nationale) . The FLN led the armed struggle for independence of Algeria from France. Hooper, an American Quaker, was an active supporter of African struggles against colonialism and apartheid, was the West Coast Representative of the Africa Defense and Aid Fund (ADAF) of the Americam Committee on Africa (ACOA).
