East Lansing, Michigan, United States
Approximately spring 1984
Southern Africa Liberation Committee (SALC) member Liz Harrow is painting "McGoff Off, No to Apartheid" on The Rock, a designated space for political speech on the Michigan State University (MSU) campus. Her two children and SALC member Patricia Beeman (in blue headscarf) are watching her. The campaign to remove the McGoff name from a stage at the Wharton Performing Arts Center went on from 1974 to 1984 because of John McGoff's secret cooperation with the South African Department of Information. The name was finally removed, and MSU returned the McGoff family's $1 million contribution.
