The American Committee on Africa and the Congress of Racial Equality organized a picket of the South African Pioneer at the Brooklyn docks. This ship was carrying goods from South Africa. For two days the dockworkers honored the picker; on the third day the ship was unloaded. (Source: Collin Gonze, George M. Houser and "Racial Picketing Idles Freighter" by John P. Callahan, The New York Times, October 11, 1963.)
