Eunice Kennedy Shriver (right) representing the Joseph P. Kennedy Foundation at a welcoming program for students from East Africa. Earlier in 1960 the Kennedy Foundation gave $100,000 to support the African American Students Foundation. As a result, in 1960 three planes were chartered bringing 222 students from east and central Africa to the United States to study.
