Robert Van Lierop (right) at the United Nations presenting a check to President Samora Machel of Mozambique for use in building a health clinic in rural Niassa province. The funds were raise from showings across the U.S. of Van Lierop's 1976 film O Povo Organizado (The People Organized) about newly independent Mozambique. The film was a follow up to Van Lierop's 1974 film A Luta Continua (The Struggle Continues) filmed in the liberated areas of Mozambique, then still a colony of Portugal. Mozambique became independent on June 25, 1975. In the back are Valeriano Ferrão (who later became Mozambique's Ambassador to the U.S.), James Garrett and an unidentified man.
