Religious leaders hold a memorial service at Citibank headquarters in New York City prior to a stockholder meeting to express concern for the victims of apartheid and to urge the bank to withdraw from South Africa. This was one of many demonstrations held at Citibank over many years. In June 1987 Citibank, after many years of opposing corporate withdrawal, announced it was selling its South Africa subsidiary. Citibank maintained correspondent banking ties with its former subsidiary. Shareholder resolutions by churches at companies doing business in South Africa were coordinated by the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility (ICCR).
