2,000 demonstrators endured 8 hours of pitching rain to voice their opposition to apartheid and South Africa's Springbok rugby team played the Eastern Rugby Union at Bleecker Stadium in Albany, NY. Jennifer Davis, Executive Director of the American Committee on Africa, addressed the demonstrators. In support of the sports boycott of apartheid South Africa, protests were held where the Springboks went and matches were canceled in several cities. The protests were organized by the Stop the Apartheid Rugby Tour coalition.
