Berkeley, California, United States
March 21 - April 4, 1985
A student sit-in on the steps of Sproul Hall (which the students renamed Biko Hall) at the University of California-Berkeley in the spring of 1985. The students were demanding the university divest from companies doing business in apartheid South Africa. The protest was part of Two Weeks of Anti-Apartheid Action, March 21 (the anniversary of the Sharpeville massacre) through April 4. Protests took place on college campuses and in communities across the U.S. Photo reproduced from ACOA Action News
