African National Congress
Zambia
1979
The button identifies 1979 as "The year of the spear," commemorating the 100th anniversary of the battle of Isandhlwana, where 20,000 Zulus warriors under King Cetewayo defeated many British troops. The round button has three horizontal bands in black, light green and yellow, which are the colors of the African National Congress flag. A spear runs through the center of the button from the bottom to the top. The point of the spear is yellow with a black line through the center; the shaft is black with yellow decoration at the top. The text is yellow and black. The button was possibly made in Zambia. Size: 1 1/2 inches across.
