Contents: MEETING SUMMARY • KEY ISSUES • Partnerships for Economic Growth • Trade and Investment Challenges • Physical and Human Capacity Building • PARTICIPANT COMMITMENTS • The minutes says participants were Tilden J. LeMelle, chairman, The Africa Fund Board of Trustees; Jennifer Davis, Executive Director, The Africa Fund; Susie Johnson, Director of Projects, The Africa Fund; Annie King and Richard Knight, Staff, The Africa Fund; Representative Irma Hunter Brown, Arkansas House of Representatives; J. Paul Brownridge, City Treasurer, Los Angeles, California; Representative Spencer Coggs, Wisconsin State Assembly; Assemblyman William D. Payne; New Jersey State Legislature; Representative Charles Quincey Troupe, Missouri House of Representatives; Councilmember Charles C. Yancey, Boston City Council. The minutes say participants gathered to examine ways in which to advance connections between local constituencies and U.S.-Africa policy, to identify direct ways in which The Africa Fund can act as a resource to facilitate their U.S.-Africa connections, and to propose local activities that will occur in partnership with The Africa Fund, as well as with other organizations with which they are involved. The minutes say the afternoon session fostered an air of optimism and possibility about future relations between The Africa Fund and state and local public officials which will create greater awareness of and involvement in shaping foreign policy actions in support of Africa's equitable development.
