Jennifer Davis • The minutes says attending were Tilden LeMelle, Peter Weiss, Salih Booker, Venita Vinson, George Houser, Andy Norman, Bob Boehm. The minutes say staff attending were Muadi Dabinga, Susie Johnson. Mike Fleshman, Jennifer Davis. The minutes says Jennifer Davis highlighted key points and concluded by requesting the Board to set a special budget, if there was agreement on the proposal to hold a joint Africa Fund/American Committee on Africa Board meeting in the fall. The minutes say Susie reviewed her extensive written report, stressed the importance of the Advisory Council, which was up and running; the first conference call has allowed members to hear expert presentations by key proponents of different positions on the major Africa linked legislation before Congress, namely the African Growth and Opportunity Bill and the H.O.P.E. legislation. The minutes say Mike reviewed his written report, the good and bad news on Nigeria–moves toward democracy, the struggle in the Delta. The minutes say George Houser reported that the Sisulu project was hopefully moving toward closer; two trips in 1995 and 1997 had led to the creation of some 28-30 lengthy tapes of Walter Sisulu’s remembrances which had then been transcribed; his work with Herb Shore has resulted in massive reordering and reorganization; we continue to work with the new leadership at the Mayibue Centre in South Africa and hope that the agreement to publish will hold.
