The purpose of divestment campaigns is to pressure U.S. companies and banks to pull out of South Africa, thereby ending their economic support of the apartheid system. Dennis Brutus, an exiled South African poet, presently a visiting professor at Amherst College, and a chief spokesperson for the anti-apartheid movement, has recently been denied approval to remain in the U.S. despite having taught in major U.S. universities for ten years. The newsletter advertises a talk by Art Serota "ZIMBABWE TODAY" on December at Springfield Technical Community College and a talk by Dennis Brutus on December 16 at Winchester Square Library.
