Resolution of support by United Transportation Union Local 1741 faxed to the South African Railway and Harbour Workers' Union (SARHWU), whose more than 40,000 longshore and railroad workers have been on strike since November against the South African Transport Service (SATS), part of the racist, apartheid government of South Africa. SARHWU, one of the oldest non-racial trade unions in South Africa, belongs to the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU). It has been denied recognition and subjected to terror and repression by the government since its birth, and 27,000 of the striking workers having been fired during the current strike.
