Leaflet advertising an event featuring Amon Msane, a 3M shop steward and member of the Commercial Catering and Allied Workers Union, an affiliate of the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU), and Stanley Fischer of OCAW (Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers International Union) on June 7 at ILWU Hall. Three hundred black South African workers walked off the job at the 3M plant near Johannesburg in sympathy with workers who were laid off at a 3M plant in Freehold, New Jersey. These workers "connected [their] efforts to convince the 3M Corporation to halt the violation of [their] basic human rights." Msane and Fischer can address questions about whether the New jersey plant laid off workers because apartheid wages at its South Africa plant make more profit, and whether 3M workers in South Africa support the Sullivan Principles that 3M says guarantee "no discrimination." The event is sponsored by OCAW Local 1-5; ILWU Local 10/Southern Africa Liberation Support Committee; the International Molders Union Local 164; the Plant Closures Project; Bay Area Free South Africa Movement (BAFSAM); and San Francisco Anti-Apartheid Committee (SFAAC). 3M is the Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company.
